Thinking Inside The Box, or Wood Project Number Two: The Speaker Boxes (Part Two)

I’m still lacking the fabric fronting (which will be picked up today, probably, just like I said yesterday), but I was still able to get some work done yesterday by putting together as much of the subwoofer box as I could. The slideshow below details that process.

So now I get to use my workbench to make other wonderful things. This project is selfishly motivated, I must admit. I wanted some way to have my speakers at my desk without subjecting them to sawdust and the possibility of blunt force trauma, so I decided to build some elevated boxes for them. The first slideshow below shows the left speaker box I’d put together a few days ago, as well as a step-by-step documentation of what I did yesterday in getting the right speaker box to an almost completed stage. All that the two boxes are missing is the front. For those, I intend to stretch a piece of colored fabric to be picked up some time today, over the front, attaching it to two 3 1/2″x1″x1/2″ plywood strips across the top and bottom of the front.

The other thing I built yesterday was the box for my phone, which will be suspended between the two speaker boxes. As with the speaker boxes, the phone box only lacks the front bit. The building process is shown below.

So what’s left is to choose the fabric and attach the fronts, and build a box for the subwoofer.
